Self Confident Leadership

Filed under: Online Travel Resources — admin at 7:27 pm on Wednesday, August 13, 2008

In surprisingly short supply, consider some ways to increase personal confidence.

What makes self-confidence in a leader important? Without it, a leader cannot embrace change or take on difficult assignments. With it, a leader has a presence that helps her to “stand out”, strengthen and support others in order to multiply leadership. Strong leaders with high self-confidence do not hesitate to move forward and make important decisions immediately without fear of the outcome. People are watching, and a leader who shows lack of self-confidence is considered weak.

So how to cope with a lack of self-confidence?

Some leaders may attempt to fake their way through it.

Effective leaders have learned the importance of the following:

• Focus on personal and organizational strengths: traditional leadership development programs have focused on gaps. With the advent of positive psychology and some of the work of the Gallup organization, this is changing. Consider your strengths and the gaps will take care of themselves.

• Be willing to be relentless in decision-making, face the consequences and move on: Not making decisions or second-guessing is a sure-fire way to continue to wallow in low self-esteem. Taking action provides the confidence needed to make subsequent decisions.

• Learn from mistakes: since mistakes are inevitable, change your thinking from “what went wrong?” to “how can I learn from what went wrong?”

• Celebrate the outcomes: how often do we do this? An often neglected activity, learn to celebrate in the way that works best for you and your team. Even less than perfect outcomes should be celebrated with emphasis on what went right.

• Make sure you surround yourself and rely on smart people: enough said.

• Find someone you can confide in, reflect with, and do it regularly (schedule it).

Where do you find someone to confide in? Finding a confidante may be the hardest to act on. Vulnerability must be admitted to ask for help. Aren’t leaders supposed to have all the answers? Why would they need someone to confide in? Leaders don’t have all the answers (just like anyone … ) and making the time to confide and reflect assists in clarifying situations and finding the answers - leading to increased self confidence.
You may find a colleague that is an exceptional non-judgmental listener - perhaps you have a friend or relative who will fit the bill. Hiring a coach trained in the skill set of coaching may be the best answer.

Is a Cruise Vacation Right for You?

Filed under: Online Travel Resources — admin at 4:06 am on Monday, August 11, 2008

Have you spent years envying those who take cruises to Alaska or the Bahamas while you’re stuck at home or driving to Florida? Well, now is the time to take action. Cruises aren’t just for the rich anymore; they’re for everyone!

Cruise lines have dropped their prices low enough that just about anyone who wants to go can save enough to take a cruise.

Although you might look at the prices for cruises online or at your local travel agency, and think I’m crazy. It really is possible. The great thing about a cruise is that one price pays for everything.

All your meals are included, and food is available constantly throughout the day! In my opinion, anywhere that feeds you well is always worth the price. However, if you happen to disagree, just start adding up how much you spend on food during a normal family vacation. Likely, you spend more than what the cruise is charging you.

If you are still not quite convinced that a cruise is for you, consider the fact that you won’t have to spend any time waiting in traffic when you’re on a boat. Nor will you have to spend hours driving to get to a great destination.

Instead of spending a lot of time cooped up in the car, the entire length of your cruise will be spent having fun together. No “Mommy, are we there yet?” just good old fashioned fun in the sun!

The real test of whether a cruise is for you is to decide what it will really cost in both time and money. Sometimes it is better to pay more up front in order to have more quality time to spend with your family. I discovered this to be true when I went on my first cruise. I wasn’t really excited about it at first because of the price; however, after a week on a cruise, I was a convert!

My experience went something like this: “I don’t want to pay all that money….. Well, I guess we could…. Now, THIS is what I’m talking about!”

For a whole seven days, I didn’t have to cook or clean or even make up the beds. There were maids and professional chefs there to do it for me.

Not once did I have to pull the kids away from the television, because there were so many fun shows and outdoor events that I had to beg them to come inside occasionally.

For one whole week, I was a queen. If only all of life was like a cruise…

Will The Golden Boy Retire As A World Champion?

Filed under: Online Travel Resources — admin at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 6, 2008

The battle of the WBC Super Welterweight Crown promises to be an exciting crash between Oscar de la Hoya and Ricardo Mayorga. De la Hoya will be looking for glory once again but the element that will make the fight more exciting is the fact that they are so opposite in the way they fight. What rises doubt is whether the Golden Boy can o cannot beat his opponent’s ways. He will be facing a boxer that has little consideration for his opponents, and his careless style has benefited him in the past take as an example when he fought Andrew Lewis, Vernon Forrest but not always a plus like when he fought Tito Trinidad. Once thing is for sure, we are going to have a fun time finding it out.

De La Hoya is coming off a long period of forced inactivity when he was knocked out in the 9th round when fighting Bernard Hopkins in September of 2004. And coming off such a devastating defeat, many wonder if he will be able to stand up to the free-swinging WBC Champion.

De La Hoya has being doing more of the traditional work out program; he is looking for a regimen not only for this fight but something that will lead him back to victory. This fight is important for De la Hoya if he wants to pursue the world championship again and retire as one.

The feeling is mixed as to if Oscar can be successful against the Nicaraguan wild man. Many believe Oscar should easily out box Mayorga, but there are others who believe the former Welterweight champion will have too much power for the Golden Boy.

Fibromyalgia - Trigger Points or Tender Points

Filed under: Online Travel Resources — admin at 7:12 pm on Tuesday, August 5, 2008

There is a bit confusion between these points and the direct consequence from this confusion is that sometimes fibromyalgia gets blamed on pain symptoms that are actually caused by trigger points and vice versa.

Either way it’s the patients who will lose, as the treatments they get aren’t going to help to the problems they have.

Even the foremost experts’ make regular mistakes with these terms and unintentionally add to the confusion.

Because of this, I believe some clarifications are in order.

Clarifications

Trigger points refer to myofascial trigger points, hyper contracted knots in a taunt band, basically tender lumps in muscles that cause localised pain.

Tender points refer to diagnostic criteria for fibromyalgia, they are just pre-decided spots which are used to identify increased total body sensitiveness to pain, which is one of the major indicators for fibromyalgia.

They have nothing to do with trigger points, but because some of these tender points appear in close proximities of common trigger points, it’s easy even for doctors to get confused.

Patient’s focus

Because doctors will deal with the diagnostics side of things, they will handle the tender points.

Basically as a fibromyalgia or chronic pain patient, only points you need to be aware of are trigger points.

Although not all fibro patients suffer from TrPs, it’s estimated that about 70% fibro patients suffer also from TrPs.

It’s thought that fibromyalgia tends to aggravate and aid in creation of trigger points, which in turn cause even more pain.

Let’s simplify thing and say that pain causes trigger points, and that the higher sensitiveness to pain makes fibro patients get them more often.

That’s why it’s especially important to people with fibro to know how to deal with them, because it’s very likely that some of their pain symptoms are direct result from aggravated trigger points.

TrPs - what are they and how to handle them

Basically trigger points are hyper contracted muscle cells that cause localised pain usually a little far from the actual TrPs spot.

For example trigger point in quadriceps muscles could cause knee pain, and TrPs in upper back could cause neck pain, or even pain that mimics migraines or headaches.

The good news is that you can get rid of them and the pain that they cause just by massaging them, as pressure will cause them to regain their normal state of contraction.

And the really good news is that do to the studies of doctors Travell and Simons we know pretty much all the possible places were trigger points can form, and the individual pain patterns that they cause.

Fibro

Basically treating TrPs when you have fibro doesn’t differ from treating them from a regular bloke; just that you need to find a way to do the massage without aggravating your fibro.

The only way to find the right balance for it is trough personal experience.

I Want to Start an Auto Detailing Company

Filed under: Online Travel Resources — admin at 9:32 am on Saturday, August 2, 2008

So I understand you’d like start an auto detailing Company and having been in the business for over 27 years I can understand why. You see, I myself am a car lover and I understand what draws people towards the American automobile; it is not only a tradition, it is something more.

But like anything auto detailing is hard work and run an auto detailing Company can be challenging. If you start an auto detailing Company at first it’s just you and its very easy to keep up the quality and maintain the customer support, but as you hire more and more people to help you it becomes an issue of management and you have to keep a close eye on all your helpers and workers.

Some auto detailing companies pay their auto detailing technicians by commission on each vehicle they detail and others pay them by the hour. If you pay them by the hour you have to make sure they’re working at all times otherwise you’ll lose money. If you pay them a commission for each vehicle they clean and detail, then you have to make sure they’re doing quality work and not rushing through just to get to their next car to make the next commission.

One thing I have found with auto detailing technicians is that the ones who are qualified and very good at the trade are like artists and they have an ego to match. If you start an auto detailing company you will have to deal with this and it is something to consider in 2006.

No Money Down Real Estate Investing

Filed under: Online Travel Resources — admin at 11:19 am on Friday, August 1, 2008

If you really want to make a wealth of money in real estate you must learn to leverage a small amount of your resources to control a lot of property. One of the techniques I like to use is Subject To financing.

Although some states are attempting to pass legislation to regulate or ban this practice, it is still one of the best ways to easily finance a purchase. My advice is to check with a local attorney to verify if laws have been passed in your state relative to purchasing Subject To the existing mortgage.

What makes Subject To financing so powerful is the ability to take title (ownership) to a piece of property while leaving the existing financing in place. In other words, ownership passes to the Buyer, but the loan remains in the name of the Seller, or more precisely, in the name of the original Borrower. You can easily see why this is such a powerful tool: you can fund most or all of the purchase price of a home with the loan that is already in place! The buyer simply makes up the past due payments to bring the loan current, and commits to the Seller to make on time payments in the future, but does not need to secure new financing.

What about the due-on-sale clause that most mortgages contain today? It’s true. The lender does have the right to call the loan due - but NOT the obligation to do so. In fact, it doesn’t make sense for a bank, an institution that is in the money business, to call a performing loan due and risk forcing it into foreclosure. After all, a bank would rather have the on-time payments than the real estate.

What about the Seller? Why would they agree to placing their credit at risk? Since the loan remains in their name, they remain financially responsible. A motivated Seller however, is desperate to eliminate the responsibility for payments. They’re usually facing foreclosure. You’re offering the opportunity to remove the burden, AND at the same time improve their credit rating with on-time payments made in their name.

Are you currently using this powerful technique in your real estate business? Unless your state prohibits it, Subject To financing should become one of your first options for the purchase of investment properties. The bank benefits by having the loan payments caught up and current. The Seller benefits from debt relief and credit improvement. And best of all, you benefit by leveraging a small amount of money to finance your real estate transactions.

Best of Success & Abundance,

Lou Castillo

Basic Frugal Advice for New Parents

Filed under: Online Travel Resources — admin at 10:06 pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Saving money on your children can be quite easy. It doesn’t take a lot of work or scouring garage sales on your weekends.

All it takes is a little wise shopping and some recycling.

Let’s start with the shopping. When it comes to clothes, remember that bigger is always better. A little room to grow will make an outfit last longer. Think about whether or not you will really dress your child in the outfit. Yes, cute dresses and little suits are precious, but if the child won’t wear it but once, it’s probably not the most frugal decision. Think about what the child really wears. For instance, little girls are cute in dresses and stockings, but when they are at the crawling stage, they can’t get around very well. Plus, stockings get dirty easily.

Many parents like to try shopping at resale or consignment stores. These stores are great if you actually spend less. Too many people simply spend the same amount, but bring more home. Some people spend more without realizing it. A child can have too many clothes. If there are clothes that don’t get worn, they were a waste of money. I acknowledge that it takes a little trial and error to find out what are good purchases, but eventually it comes.

Buying out of season clothes off the sales racks is a little risky. You need to be sure that your child will be that size come the next winter. You can’t always think that a one-year old will wear a 1T or 12 month outfit. My one-year old wears anything from 3 to 9 months, depending on the brand. My friend’s ten month old is wearing 12 to 18 months. We all come in different sizes, even as children.

The good news is that stores are often putting the season’s clothes on sale long before the season is over. Winter coats can often be found on sale in December or January. This is great for kids that hit a growth spurt mid-way through winter. You can think long term about outfits too. A little outfit with a short sleeve shirt and jeans only needs a sweat-shirt or a jacket to become a fall or winter outfit. Keep in mind that most of your clothes are worn year round.

Personally, I shop for my child once every season. I get everything I know she will need at that time. Then I don’t go back into the clothing section for anything, unless I am there for a specific item. Otherwise, I’m buying socks each time just because they are cute or picking two or three outfits off of the sales rack that I don’t need.

When it comes to toys, be practical. My daughter’s favorite toy in the world is a plastic pop bottle. She can be occupied for a long time with a bucket full of odd things. I know that there are many things around the house that she has yet to explore. Think of things you can introduce to your kids as fun and educational that you already own.

When you are shopping, think about how fast your children are growing. If you have a 6 month old and a toy is recommended for a 6 month old, you might consider looking for another toy that will interest the child in a couple of months. Stretch things out as far as possible. There are great toy combinations out there that last a child forever. For example, you can buy a play board that turns into a walk-behind toy that then turns into a scooter. It covers six months to two years in stages. And saves you from buying three separate toys.

And remember, a lot of toys aren’t necessary. Your child would much rather play with you and a piece of yarn or go for a slow walk than play alone with a toy. Often the most frugal items, like a bed-time book, are those that take a little time on your part. To many frugal people, it is better to spend time than money.

You will find that there are hundreds of ways to save money with your children. From recycling paper grocery sacks into drawing paper to cutting up magazines for picture books, the possibilities are endless. It’s all about being a little creative and keeping it fun.

Things You Should Consider When Planning Your Thanksgiving Celebration

Filed under: Online Travel Resources — admin at 2:27 am on Tuesday, July 29, 2008

When planning for Thanksgiving dinner there are so many things that need to be considered. You need to plan the turkey, side dishes and pies. There is also the decorations and setting the table. You may even be preparing to serve a large group with a lot of family favorite menu items.

By following a few simple suggestions you will be able to serve a scrumptious Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings and have a wonderful holiday.

The first thing you need to do is create a party planning check list. This should include the menu, shopping list, decorations list, party activities and what to do each day the week before the holiday.

The second thing to consider is what to include in your Thanksgiving menu. Start by planning a menu that has make ahead dishes. Casseroles and pies can be made a few days ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator until Thanksgiving. When Thanksgiving day arrives you can re-heat your casseroles and pies in the oven or microwave.

Third consider asking your guests to bring a favorite side dish or dessert. Most people are excited to help and it makes them feel at home on the holiday. By including others in your food preparation you ease your cooking load and help others to feel special and included.

The fourth recommendation is to set the table a few days ahead of time. By planning the centerpiece and the table setting you can relieve yourself of this worry when your guests arrive.

Finally smile, remember this is ‘Thanks’ ‘Giving’. Enjoy yourself and your company.

Why is it that goal setting an activity that most person shun away from? Is it the fear of not fulfilling it? Or is it the fear of trying to achieve it?

There are many people that are very reluctant in goal setting. There may be many reasons why they are against goal setting. They may think that it makes no sense in goal setting because there are too many ways to fail and one way to success. They can figure that the failures will out way the success of goal setting. Really what is the use of goal setting if you think that you are going to achieve it with ease all the time? It is never a bad idea for you to take time to set some short term and long term goals for your self. You will want to make sure that you are going to take time and think out what you are going to set your goals at. You are going to want to make sure that you are setting goals that are doable and reasonable. How to Choose the Correct Trade Show Display?

Filed under: Online Travel Resources — admin at 6:57 pm on Friday, July 25, 2008

You should choose a trade show display based on the trade show or event for which you will be using the display. The display that best presents the products, services, and company image desired, will attract future customers. Frankly, a display is designed to do assist in creating or maintaining brand awareness. For once an attendee has been lured to your display; your booth’s job is done. It is then up to you to throw down the hammer and commandeer that attendee as a future customer.

With only an ephemeral moment to seize the attention of a trade show attendee, your trade show display must make a plea to your target audience’s needs. Your display has to effectively communicate who you are, what you do, and how your company can be of aid.

But, determining the correct display can be a daunting task. When purchasing a trade show display, you want to choose a professional based company with expertise and excellent customer service. If you consider the questions listed below you will have a much better idea of the direction for your display needs. Keep in mind; you will be limited by the size of your booth. Working under that premise, take a look at some options for that area.

1) What is the booth size?

2) What is the show budget?

3) How many individuals will be working the show?

4) What are the marketing and sales objectives?

5) How will the display be transported to the show?

6) Will graphics need to be created?

By answering these questions, you will narrow the search for a display booth. Once objectives and your trade show calendar for the year have been set, the next step is to choose a display. The display decision should be based on the specific show objectives, budgetary restrictions, as well as, corporate branding goals and guidelines. If for example you are a marketing director for a big company with an unlimited budget and want to position yourself as a leader in your industry, a large booth space and a custom or high end modular exhibit for enhanced appearance would best suit your needs. If, on the other hand, you are a startup or small company with a limited budget, a great choice would be to consider an inexpensive Pop Up Display. Most companies fall somewhere in-between these two extremes.

Pop Up Displays are the most popular option for spaces at sales events and conferences. There is a wide range of pop ups and most are available with podium wraps to convert your carrying case into a podium or small table. Further, Pop Ups can be complemented with shelving, peninsula counters, backlit headers, literature racks, and other accessories which can convert an ordinary Pop Up into unique marketing tool. Some of the key factors to look at in selecting a pop-up are durability, ease of setup, availability, fabric colors, and warranty. If you sometimes exhibit in smaller spaces, you could consider a convertible booth which can be easily converted to a smaller size. Each display booth uses a frame that can “pop up” allowing the display to be assembled in minutes. The frames are extremely durable and make it easier for individuals to set up and tear down. They are made of different components, some graphite, steel, and/or extruded aluminum.

Manufacturers would argue their frame is the strongest, the lightest, or simply the best. Just remember each represents their particular calling card. You could equate it to the myriad of different HD televisions now available on the market. Though, when broken down to its bare essence, no one is any better than the next. The makeup from one frame to another is not overly important. Further, most of these displays have one thing in common… a lifetime warranty on the frame. Some offer a one year warranty on their display. The frame is the most important piece to your display. Every model, big or small, is a great portable trade show display choice for any trade show exhibitor. Today, marketers must achieve their goals with reduced budgets. Again, Pop Up Displays will assist you in stretching your budget because they are lighter weight and designed for easy set-up and tear-down. Further, you will save on storage, transportation, and labor costs.

Panel System Displays are an alternative to Pop Ups, and depending on their quality and countertop options, can provide a higher end look than a Pop Up Display. Panel displays generally hold more weight than Pop Ups, so they can work well if you have heavier products or a number of computer monitors to display. They are constructed of upper and lower panels that are assembled via heavy duty bolts. Panel systems give you an extreme amount of flexibility of design choices as displays can be custom created to your needs. Flexibility also abounds in color selection as upper and lower panels can be different. Most come with panels covered in fabric, be sure to select the color that best matches your companies logo, brand, products or overall image.

Modular Exhibits are high end exhibits that provide a custom look but can still be setup in a few hours, shipped in standard rotomolded plastic cases, and thus have a lower total cost of ownership than custom booths. Modular exhibits generally use higher end materials including tensile fabric structures, extruded aluminum frames, high end composites and laminates, and innovative bold designs. Modular exhibits will hold more weight and can also be used to hold large plasma screens and LCD panels.

Truss Systems provide a brash, modern, and unique look to a display. They are also excellent functional components that can be used to mount lighting, projectors, and Plasma or LCD panels. The fact that truss systems have a high weight bearing capacity makes them great for displaying heavier weight products like computers, machine parts, free weights, etc. They also have a unique dramatic look that works well with certain target markets. The beauty of Truss systems is the ability to be used in conjunction with other display structures like Pop Up and Panel System.

Custom Exhibits provide the ultimate in branding and high impact. As their name infers, they are custom built, ergo, designed to meet very specific show objectives and may include elements like conference areas, theater spaces, rotating towers, as well as, numerous product and service display positions. Given the higher cost of design, construction, shipping, installation and dismantling, these exhibits are best equipped for those willing to invest $25,000 or more for their trade show display. The payoff in a custom exhibit can be huge because it can set you apart from the competition and create an indelible branding image of your company as an industry leader.

With each of the above-fore-mentioned display types, designing attention-grabbing graphics for your booth is essential to setting yourself apart from your competitors. Below, you will find some important strategies to consider:

- The 10 foot rule. Make sure all logos and text can be clearly read from a distance of 10 feet ( i.e. Rule of thumb for text is 2″ per 10′ of distance viewed)

- Limit bullet points to 10 words or less… Less is more.

- Infuse a bounty of visual images to illicit emotion and make your exhibit unforgettable

- Make your logo simple to view even from a long distance. You want to make sure that your target audience can find you at a glance. High visibility is a priority.

- Consider using mural graphic panels to increase the value and emotional impact of your display. Remember, “Perception is Reality!”

Remember, purchasing a trade show display allows you complete freedom of expression. Be cognizant that the exhibit design should revolve around your specific tradeshow needs. The Trade Show Display, Exhibit or Booth should project your company’s individuality, character, and panache. Over time purchasing a new tradeshow display may be your most economical long term solution to your trade show needs. Once you’ve answered the questions presented earlier and understood the dynamic differences between the many display options, you will be more informed and better suited to create your new display space.
