So, you genuinely feel you’d like an adventure living and working in a foreign country. You may like the idea of Mexico for the many conveniences and opportunities our south of the border neighbor has to offer. But just how do you choose what part of the country to consider? How do the major areas compare? What are some of the best areas to live and work? Here is Mexico’s best city to live and work - Mexico City.

Selection Factors

The selection is based on several factors including; number of job possibilities, size of the metro area, availability of affordable housing, variety of cultural and social activities, educational prospects, food, restaurant and dining options, overall quality of life, availability of public transportation in the metro area and to other locales among others. While this recommendation is not meant to be exclusive and doesn’t indicate that other areas / cities would not be good choices, it does provide a jumping off point for those still on the fence in their decision-making efforts to take the plunge and start living and working, teaching English for example, way, way down south.

Mexico City

At a whopping 25 million people and counting, how could the world’s largest metropolis NOT take the number one spot? Everything you can imagine (and quite a number of things you wouldn’t imagine) is to be found within the scope of a city that seems to go on forever. From the arts to the historic Zocalo, there’s little lacking to stimulate your mind, heart and spirit. All this and a seemingly endless demand for native English-speaking teachers, translators, interpreters, proofreaders, researchers, teaching interns, computer specialists, word processors, professors and a continual stream of English-literate or bi-lingual professionals.

The latest, the greatest, the best and almost everything in between exist to serve and be served. The hub of Mexico’s vast reaches, all roads lead to and from the concrete and cobblestone-paved Zocalo that dates back to Aztec times. With its fast, cheap, efficient (and packed) metro system you can reach virtually any point in this urban sprawl in less than an hour of stomach-rumbling speed. To see up 50 English-teaching or English language-based job listings at one time in the English language Mexico News is not unheard of. Most teachers can get a full time job working here the same week (often the same day or two) that they arrive. Talk about overkill.

But if you want a bit of small town “charm” without the overwhelming size and opportunities of Mexico City, why not check out the “smaller” city of Puebla?

The City of Puebla

At a scant hour from the D.F. (Federal District), and located under the smoking eye of Mexico’s most active volcano, this university city of one and a half million inhabitants is also known as the birthplace of the original “mole” or chocolate sauce with chiles and spices laced throughout. There’s culture galore and the city is a perfect gateway to the regions of Chiapas, Tlaxcala, and further afield; Campeche and the Yucatan. A wide range of good-paying, satisfying work is available year-round and its proximity to other interesting areas makes it a prime location in itself. It’s the perfect place from which to launch your escapades to Popocatepetl Volcano and his reclining love, Iztaccihuatl, the adjoining summit.

Move over PC, it’s the age of the laptop, or at least that what the high demand indicates. So high demand but minute supply according to what manufacturers are anticipating. I think the bad thing for manufacturers is that it doesn’t look like anything will hinder this demand for laptop computers. Manufacturers are trying to organise the technology loops but that doesn’t prevent anyone from coming and advancing things.

A number of companies have been releasing gaming notebooks lately. With prices dropping and new technology being introduced rather rapidly it means that buyers are getting higher bangs for their buck. Notebook computers can now genuinly be used for gaming by gamers due to the advanced performance of new portables. What impressed me the most is how slim and stylish a few gaming notebooks are becoming compared to the past. Sure one is not denying that there is a performance gap between notebook computers and desktop computers in relation to playing games but this should always exist. It’s a niche to pay attention to as purchasers are looking for portable, more powerful systems as we speak.

Custom laptops will always be procurable because the popular models do not offer the spec the particular niche markets require. I’m partial to the idea that high quality components go into a few custom notebooks. Determining what you require plainly is the prime benefit. Premade portables are designed for consumers who have like minded needs and that is probably not you right? You can get a more suitable notebook by getting it custom built. High levels of customer care and support can also be discovered when buying custom built notebooks. This would be a big seducer to a few specialist markets.

The future of upcoming laptops seems great. A particular thing I haven’t mentioned is the increase of low cost ultramobiles. I didn’t think anyone thought they would be so trendy. I personally think that we’re bound to see ultra light 15″ notebooks soon too. There are laptops resembling this in the market already, just at premium prices. Laptops for playing games on will get sleeker, that’s for sure. Companies are always striving to differentiate themselves in this competitive market so that keeps things developing.

As a self-employed professional, you have two basic strategies for your marketing efforts: Writing or Speaking.

• Ideas are “a dime a dozen,” but right action is rare and worth millions.
• Mistakes are the stepping stones to success. Embrace them.
• Success and integrity are not mutually exclusive.
• Embrace the goal, not the plan.
• This is your life, not a dress rehearsal.
• At least 5% of your clients and projects are from Hell. Always. No exceptions.
• Success comes by doing what you do magnificently. Delegate everything else!
• Your strengths are so easy you think everyone can do them. They can’t!

As you can see, some of my MIBP are reasons why solopreneurs are frustrated; while others are principles for business success. But all of them are principles that I believe in and use when I coach solopreneurs.

For a contrast, these were my 10 MIBPs when I was working solo as an Independent Technical Writer and Publications Project Manager:

• The client is always right, even when he isn’t. Always respect and honor the client’s objectives.
• Project risk is always reducible.
• Success requires mistakes but make them small ones! And always correct your own on your own time and dime.
• The client wants options and possibilities.
• Never surprise the client.
• Always communicate cleanly, regularly, appropriately, and proactively.
• Use an editor!
• Keep all boundaries professional, clean, and open at all times.
• Hold the client as accountable as I hold myself.
• Manage the client’s expectations at all times.

Once you know your 10 MIBP you immediately have at least 10 topics for promoting your business. You can write a series of articles like this one, or use them as topics for speeches or seminars, or create checklists and worksheets based on your MIBP for use by your clients, or print them on the backs of your business cards, or write a book or ebook about them. You get the idea.

Using your 10 MIBP in your marketing ensures congruency in your business messenging strengthening the image of your business in the minds of your potential clients.

All banks lend money to individuals and groups. But all this money given out by banks is supposed to be returned back to the bank on a few conditions. The foremost condition is that one has to pay the bank debt in easy payment installments, over a considerable period of time. The monthly money is charged with an additional amount of money based on a percentage of the actual money. The rate or percentage added to the amount that is supposed to be paid by the borrower is called interest. The actual money that the person took from a bank as a loan is known as the principal.

Know what a Federal bank is before rushing for a home loan from one of the Federal banks. The Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) was primarily established in order to extend the loan facilities (particularly for home loans). These banks also came to existence for providing different types of credit and monitory services to various member institutions, including savings and loan associations, savings banks and insurance companies.

The Federal Home Loan Bank provides home loans with a lot of advantages to the borrower. However, like all other bank loans, the foremost condition is that one has to pay the home bank loan in easy payment installments over a considerable period of time. The monthly money is charged with an additional amount of money based on a percentage of the actual money. Over the past two years, I’ve seen airline and travel rewards credit cards come and go. With the exception of a few cards, most charged high interest rates and absurd annual fees that offset any “rewards” that might be earned. On top of that, many required spending of $35.000 just to get a “reward”. It was not the best of times for consumers.

Things have changed with the recent introduction of the Blue Sky credit card from American Express. The Blue Sky credit card is by and far the best travel reward credit card to hit the market in years. It not only offers great savings, but the highest rewards percentage of any card.

That’s the same as earning 1.33% in rewards on every dollar spent.

Hopefully, the introduction Blue Sky will convince other issuers to follow a new trend and the market will see more low apr, no annual fee travel rewards credit cards. Currently, no other company has stepped up to the plate.
